Our Process

We want to talk with you about specific business challenges or symptoms.  It is important for us to understand your business, pain points, and expectations.  We will make introductions and ask lots of questions that will help us to develop an approach and identify potential deliverables.

We will discuss the project purpose, approach, timeline, resources, and deliverables.  If the critical factors are not apparent, we may take a half-step by setting up a “scoping project” for discovery and to determine the right approach for improvement opportunities.

We will submit a formal proposal, including typical contract terms with estimated consulting fees and expenses.

We will kick-off the project with key stakeholders and resources, and make sure that everyone understands objectives, approach, roles, deliverables and timelines.

This is the time when we roll up our sleeves and begin the real work.  While this step varies widely based on project objectives, it typically involves data collection and analysis, site visits, management interviews, research, gap analysis, solutions design,  and implementation planning.  It will conclude with a summary report.

This step focuses on discussion of the summary report with client leadership.  We present findings and deliverables, which typically include solution options, estimates and next steps.  This is a critical point when management must make decisions and commit to implementation. Turnaround projects differ in that they are much more iterative with frequent reviews, including actions taken.

Detailed planning and implementation are typically a separate Statement of Work (SOW) based on solutions previously defined and approved. 3PLR fully supports implementation of great ideas to transform your business. Kurt Baumann

Kurt brings analysis, experience, and innovation to client challenges. He is a supply chain and logistics consulting executive with more than 30 years of experience driving growth strategy, supply chain transformation, and operational turnaround for companies across a wide spectrum of industries.

As Managing Director of 3PLR Logistics Consulting, Kurt has led over 150 engagements for more than 110 companies serving third-party logistics providers (3PLs), manufacturers, distributors, and private equity investors. He has guided companies through M&A operational due diligence and acquisition integration, logistics outsourcing, DC design, technology integration, organizational restructuring, and served as interim COO.

Earlier in his career, Kurt held leadership positions in the Supply Chain Consulting Practices of PricewaterhouseCoopers’ (now, IBM) and Ernst & Young, and GE Healthcare’s Global Supply Chain Operations Group.  Kurt earned an MBA in Supply Chain Management from UW-Madison and a Six Sigma Black Belt from General Electric.

Kurt serves on the WisDOT Freight Advisory Committee, as chairman of The Logistics Council (TLC), and on WCTC’s Supply Chain Advisory Board. He is an avid outdoorsman, coach, home remodeler, and hack golfer.

Steve Silvis

Steve Silvis brings over 30 years of experience in designing and implementing end-to-end supply chain solutions. With a strong analytical background, he builds custom relational databases tailored to clients’ specific goals.

He has served industries including industrial equipment, consumer goods, apparel, medical equipment, and grocery. Steve’s expertise spans sourcing, supplier integration, assembly, material flow, kitting, automation, transportation, facility design, and startup.

Throughout his distinguished 40-year career in the transportation and supply chain industry, Steve has partnered with diverse organizations across a wide range of verticals, orchestrating complex logistical strategies to help them exceed their operational goals.
